Day 4: Continental and Regensburg

We started our day at Continental which is the company that I am doing my presentation on. First, we listened to a speaker and then ate at their cafeteria. Then, we got to go on a factory tour. What I found surprising was how much technology was involved. Robots are a very essential part of their production process in order to make everything faster and more efficient. They still have lots of employees but a lot of production is run by robots. Another thing I found surprising was how clean everything was. In order to go into the factory, we had to put on shoe coverings and jackets. We also couldn’t take anything into the factory with us. This was a sharp contrast from MAN’s tour. While MAN wasn’t dirty, it was messier than Continental and we didn’t need to wear any extra gear. MAN seemed less strict with who they let in the building, what people wear, and just overall seemed more laid back. At Continental, there is a whole process of getting a visitor’s pass and then getting into the factory. Like I said, we had to get protective shoe covers and jackets and also had to stand on a machine that tells us if we are able to go into the factory. It was very interesting to see this process. After Continental, we went to the city of Regensburg. We had a little free time to walk around and explore the city. Then we went on a tour of the Old Town Hall, where we got to learn a lot about the history of the city. One of my favorite things we saw was the torture chamber and jail cells. It was so interesting to see these historical moments in real life. Then, we got some more free time to walk around the city, where I was able to buy souvenirs. I really liked Regensburg and enjoyed seeing the Continental factory.
