Day 7, Munich + More

Today we went to Munich! I was excited for today because, in comparison to Augsburg, Munich was huge and busy, and there was shopping and excitement, that’s more of a city speed I am used to. We took the train today, so rough start because I love our tour bus and I love sleeping on it more. Also even rougher start because we had to stand on the train for the 40-minute ride because it was that crowded, but it’s always a Saturday. Once we arrived, we went right to the city center plaza to meet the tour guide who was amazing. The first thing we experienced was the Munich Cathedral of Our Lady, which was huge and gorgeous. The architecture was insane and I wish America had buildings that looked like that. I learned Munich is the fastest growing European city and has some 1.6 million people as of right now, so I am not sure I would want to live there but it’s good to visit. I loved watching the dancing of the life-sized statues and the chiming of the huge bells that go off at 11am exactly. I also thought St. Peter’s Church was beautiful but I was not prepared to see a dead person – skeleton bedazzled in jewels today so that was interesting and I know it’s historic, but made me a little sick, her name was Saint Munditia. I also enjoyed learning about the devil who made the deal with the builder that he couldn’t make a church with only one window so when the devil was tricked into thinking that, he melted into the floor from being so angry, and now his footprint remains there. After the tour, we had free time! Yay! We went to Hofbrauhaus, naturally, to try the authentic stuff. I had sausage and spatzle, and then we went shopping and I bought souvenir gifts for all my family. We went to Brandy Melville and the Ralph Lauren cafe, so I was pretty content with my day because of that, then we had a group dinner and trained home in a less crowded train where I had a seat.
