Day 7 – The Big City

Today we went south to Munich. It was a sunny Saturday in the biggest tourist city in Germany, so as you can expect there were people everywhere. We took a comprehensive city tour which touched on all capacities of this storied and cultured city. I appreciated the tour guide’s transparency in regards to the rise of the Nazi Party and Munich’s significance of it. Following our tour, we got lunch at the notorious Hofbrauhaus! The drinks and food were well worth it, and being in such a world-famous destination was surreal. After lunch started our free time, and what better way to spend it than watching a Bayern Munich game in an Irish Pub? Here I caught up with friends, and shared a few drinks under the glow of TVs chock full of Bundesliga action.

Our day ended with dinner at a “Smash Burger” type restaurant, and our short train ride home back to Augsburg. Whilst Munich was amazing, I think I need to go back to fully appreciate it. We were in the center of the city which was swarming with tourists, and the gothic preservation architecture felt a little less “grand” as it did in cities such as Nuremberg and Regensburg. I will be back in Munich upon completion of Plus3 Germany, so maybe my opinion will change.
