Today we visited a hanok village, which was such a cool opportunity to look back in time and see traditional Korean architecture. The houses are over 100 years old where they were used as housing for noble families. The homes are actually still used today, so we had to be quiet to be respectful. We got to walk through the village and admire the different constructions.
After that, we walked to get to one of the two buddhist temples that are located in the city. Most of the temples in Korea are located in the mountain regions, surrounded by peace to enhance the spiritual environment. We got the chance to go inside and see the giant gold statue of buddha that sits in the middle. We also walked along thee outside of the temple which had beautiful and intricate paintings all along, showing significant events in his life. We got lunch at a restaurant in the area where I got bibimbap again, like the first day here. It was delicious as always but a little too hot for how hot it was outside.
We ended the day by heading to shop at the Namdaemun market, one of Korea’s largest traditional markets. We got some fun souvenirs and amazing street food, including a red bean fish. I picked up some more Yakgwa, mini honey cookies that have quickly become my favorite treat. It was a great day again and I am excited for our cooking class tomorrow!
