Day 7 of Buenos Aires! We started out with a presentation led by Dr. Gabriel Novick in which he spoke about the unions. He explained how they work, what they do, and how they became crucial in Argentina. In addition, he talked about the overall ideas of each system such as public and private sectors and the history on how they came to be. He guided us through the years, from starting with private doctors in the 1930s and Juan Peron to the public sector and the unions. Dr. Novick explained that their system is required to provide care no matter the person, their income, etc. This is starting to damage the system and how they are organizing it such as finances.

After the presentation on the review of Argentina’s health care system, we had lunch at the Museo Evita Restaurant. We then took a tour of the museum which showed us through the years of Eva Peron’s life. She was the first lady of Argentina, also known as Juan Peron’s wife. She made an impact on Argentine history as she played a major role in women’s rights and suffrage as well as creating a foundation for those in need which included donated items like toys and school supplies. This museum displays many objects that contribute to Eva Peron’s legacy such as her clothing, letters and speeches that aided in her impact, etc. We ended earlier than usual and decided to explore some of the city and shop around!
