Day 7 in Cyprus

Today was probably my favorite day so far in Cyprus. We started off our bus ride by stopping at Aphrodite’s Rock, a rocky beach area with views to large rock formations in the sea where it is said Aphrodite was born from the foam of the sea. We also went to the Tomb of the Kings area where the Egyptians constructed underground tomb areas. We then went to the area of Paphos where there were many other tourists and very busy restaurants on the water. The area of the House of Dionysos included many different intricate mosaic images within a large home of a probably wealthy Roman. The mosaics were built with natural stones and glass for blue and orange colors. They depicted many different stories from the Greeks, such as the story of Narcissus, who fell in love with his own image, and ended up drowning trying to embrace his reflection in the water, or the story of Pyramus and Thisbe, what Romeo and Juliet was based on, where Pyramus saw the veil of Thisbe in a lion’s jaw and thought she had been killed, yet she was only hiding, so he killed himself, and she the same when coming across his body. The ice cream shops and local markets in the setting of ancient Greek architecture on the water made it an unforgettable day.
