Day 7 in Buenos Aires! We started off our day at 10am, with a lecture with Dr. Gabriel Novak. He went over the Argentinian health sectors and helped to clear up any questions we have had about our past weeks lectures. He went into deep detail about the Obras sociales. I learned about how each sector began and when they started. We also learned about how Juan Peron was a big factor in these sectors forming. Peron played a foundational role in shaping the country’s healthcare system, especially through his emphasis on social justice, labor rights, and universal access. His policies laid the groundwork for Obras sociales and the public healthcare sector. After the lecture, we had time to work with our group on our final project.
Speaking of Peron, we then visited the Museo Evita, which is a museum of Eva Peron’s life and impact. We had a lunch, followed with a guided tour of the museum. I really enjoyed this museum because I think Eva Peron is a very influential and inspiring woman. I have been wanting to watch her movie and musical, and this museum visit definitely inspired me to do so. The first part of the museum was an exhibits of real outfits that she wore throughout her life. The museum started from her childhood, to her acting career, her political career, then ended with her passing. This museum used to be a house for women with children that needed temporary housing, started by Evita. Evita established the Eva Perón Foundation, which helped to fund nursing schools, hospitals, orphanages, and other educational institutions.
After the museum, I took a quick nap at the hotel and went shopping with a few of the girls! I bought some alfajores and a cute Buenos Aires shirt. To end the day, we had a movie night!
