The first thing we did today was head to Bukchon Village, this is a traditional housing village that was preserved by a Korean businessman during the Japanese occupation. This makes it a portal back to what life used to look like for Koreans before the wars and technological revolutions. When we were walking around we needed to make sure to remain as quiet as possible because the area is still a residential area that is actively in use. The people that live there tend to be richer since the home cost upwards of 1 million USD, so they have security that reminds people to remain quiet while they are touring the village.
After the village we went to Insadong, which is a town that has lots of art and crafts shops. I purchased a small oil painting of the Korean wilderness to take home. After walking around Insadong for a bit we went to lunch. I got vegetable noodles which were very filling after a lot of walking around the town.
After lunch a small group of us went down to the Cheonggyecheon stream to walk along it. It was amazing that such a beautiful stream existed within the city of Seoul. After walking down the stream a few km we stopped at a nearby market to try some traditional korean street food. The first dish we tried was spiced chicken feet. They had a good flavor but were too chewy for my liking. The other dish we tried was live squid, which was very tasty, while an interesting sensory and texture experience. Lastly we grabbed milk ice cream as a treat for walking so far along the stream which we enjoyed as we headed back to the hotel to enjoy our evenings.
Tomorrow was a very enjoyable day that allowed me to rest and recover after several very long days, I look forward to our cooking class tomorrow and getting to see Namsan tower.
