Camp Casey (Day 9)

To start off the morning, we woke up bright and early to grab a bite to eat before hitting the road to go to camp Casey. On the bus ride there, I watched one of my favorite shows to kill time. Once we got there, we immediately had to show our identification to the front gate to gain access to the inside of the base. I was excited to go inside because I have never been inside of a military base and I was interested in all of their equipment and vehicles. After meeting up with Grace and Will, we entered the base and Grace walked us around some of the training areas and brought us to her motor pool. Here, we looked at the Stryker, which is a biological and chemical reconnaissance vehicle. These vehicles are used to scout out any enemy territory that may contain harmful chemicals or liquids in the area, such as mustard gas. Because of this, the troops have to be fully suited up in hazmat-type suits to stay protected from the harmful environment.

After checking out the motor pool, we went over to the “impact zone” for lunch. At this mini restaurant, I ordered a pepperoni calzone and buffalo wings. This was a great pit stop to refuel for the rest of the day. After having lunch, we drove around the camp and saw all the different facilities. I was shocked at how large the entire camp was, with so many facilities available for the troops to train. At the end of the day, we rode to a small park with a few different trails to hike on. At the top of the hike, there was a beautiful waterfall. After hiking, a few others and I went to the mall to get delicious sushi!
