Day 8: The Backbone of Limassol Trade

This morning, we met with Mr. Panayiotis Agathokleous, the Limassol Port Manager, to discuss the Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA). The CPA oversees Cyprus’s ports, mainly regulating port operations. They don’t handle cargo, but instead strategically plan port structure development. It basically ensures that everything follows international standards and safety protocols. The CPA ensures the smooth flow of goods by enforcing safety standards and maintaining port capacity, which is a key aspect of the supply chain. Their geographic position makes it a central point between neighboring continents, which also applies to the global logistics aspects of the supply chain. After learning about the CPA, we made our way to DP World, which is a global port operator overseeing a terminal at the port of Limassol. They handle loads of cargo from regular containers to even cruise ships. DP World invests in energy-efficient equipment to reduce their carbon footprint of its global shipping operations. Today, supply chain partners champion for their companies to meet sustainability standards to align with future goals.

Immediately after, we made our way to learn about P&O Maritime Cyprus. They provide marine support services such as tug assistance and offshore support. They ensure port efficiency by utilizing safe vessel movement. Also, they support reliability regarding port operations, which is important for keeping schedules on track with supply chain plans. They provide special services that reduce risks and increase the safety of cargo transportation. Shortly after, we took a bus ride to Eurogate Container Terminal. They manage container handling operations at the Limassol Port, operating based on container terminal operations. There were various cranes and equipment that strategically placed containers on the ships. Eurogate Container Terminal revolves around logistics, connecting Cyprus to European and global markets. They connect to the aspects of the supply chain through terminal operations and handling systems to ensure efficient cargo movement and transport to global trade routes.
