Today, we visited four significant Cypriot port companies in the morning: CPA, DP World, P&O, and Eurogate. All four of these companies piqued my interest, and it was cool to see how all of these companies have their own unique way of accomplishing the same goal. The first company we visited, Cyprus Ports Authority, mainly functioned by managing the ports of Cyprus. Some of the focal points of this companies are handling the container terminal, handling the general cargo and passengers that go on the ship, and providing marine services. Their role is essential in the supply chain as they coordinate the movement of goods and containers, acting as a central hub for distribution across the island and beyond. The next company we visited, DP World, is a company that is well placed in Europe whose three main areas are new passenger terminals, oil and gas, and cargo. In the future, this company wants to focus on employing more women, improving their education, and utilizing water more efficiently. DP World’s role in the supply chain is crucial because they facilitate international trade through efficient cargo handling and global connectivity.
The third company we saw was P&O. P&O manages marine services at Limassol Port. Their job is to ensure safe and efficient maneuvering of vessels within the port. Some of their focal points include health, safety, zero LTI, becoming more of an equal opportunities employer, and creating a more innovative approach. P&O supports the supply chain by ensuring that cargo ships are safely and quickly docked and dispatched, minimizing delays and enhancing overall logistics efficiency. Finally, the last company we visited was Eurogate. This company largely focuses on the export of cars to North America or Asia. I found it especially interesting that the cars stored here all have steering wheels on the left, which is appropriate for places in North America and Asia, but not for Cyprus because they drive on the left side of the road. Eurogate plays a key supply chain role by managing large-scale vehicle logistics and ensuring that exports are aligned with market-specific requirements.
