Day 9: Camp Casey

Monday May 19th, 2025

Today was a regular start time with meeting in the lobby at 8.15. Riya and I both skipped breakfast to sleep in but went to the convince store quickly before we left to get coffee and snacks. I had a Korean protein bar and made my own coffee at the GS-25. We took the chartered but about an hour north to Camp Casey which is a smaller military base where Grace and Will, who are both Pitt alum, are stationed right now on their rotational program. We got a tour of some of the area and were shown one of the strikers and other equipment they have with demonstrations and explanations about how it is used. It was really interesting to see the little village of army people and asking questions about their day to day lives. We had lunch at the Impact Zone which was their pizza and sandwich joint on the property. The food reminded me of cafeteria food but was still good and hit the spot. The calzones were huge, but I settled for the grilled cajun chicken sandwich and fries. After lunch the bus took one last loop around the property with us and we could see the area. We headed to a mountain near by to do a quick trail which only took an hour in total. It was mainly stairs but led to a small buddhist temple and waterfall which was very pretty. We could hear a young choir practicing in one of the temples and could see inside the others. It overlooked a stream and had a small, quaint shop next to it. We had another hour bus ride back to the hotel where Riya, Noa, and I got our nails done. We had Dr. Yun call a few places for us to book an appointment as yesterday they were all booked up. After nails we did some more light shopping before getting dinner on our own. Overall today was interesting and had many pretty views and the weather was good for walking as it wasn’t too hot.
