Mountain, Tree, Waterfall

Today, we started our day by boarding a charter bus, which was a welcome change after many days of relying on public transportation. I didn’t realize how much I would miss riding a bus until we had the chance to travel more comfortably. Our first destination was Camp Casey, a U.S. military base where some University of Pittsburgh alumni are currently stationed.

Visiting a military base was a new experience for me, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, it turned out to be incredibly interesting and informative. We had the opportunity to see various military vehicles and equipment up close, which gave us a deeper appreciation for the work and commitment of the people stationed there.

One of the most surprising and fascinating aspects of the base was the presence of American restaurants. It felt like a small American town tucked away in South Korea. For a few hours, it almost felt like we had stepped back into the United States. The familiar sights and sounds created a sense of nostalgia and comfort, especially being so far from home.

Later in the day, we went on a short hike to Mount Soyosan. Although it was a bit windy at the beginning, the cool weather made the hike pleasant overall. The trail was not too steep, and the walk felt more like a peaceful stroll through nature. The scenery along the way was breathtaking. We passed several creeks and eventually came upon a beautiful waterfall, which served as the perfect ending to our outdoor adventure.

Overall, it was a well-balanced day filled with learning, exploration, and relaxation. I really enjoyed the combination of cultural exposure, natural beauty, and a small taste of home.
