DMZ and Baseball (Day 10)

Departure from the hotel today was at 9:30 because of the hour-long travel to the DMZ. Before arriving at the DMZ we stopped and had lunch. Today’s lunch was stew with pork, cheese and vegetables. After our quick stop for lunch we headed to the DMZ for our tour. On this tour we made 3 stops, the first was at the 3rd tunnel, the second was at the Dora observatory and the last was at a village located in the DMZ. At the first stop we went into the 3rd tunnel that North Korean soldiers dug to try and invade South Korea. This tunnel was very cramped but I was lucky to be short and not have to duck while walking. There was a concrete wall with a small window that separated us from North Korea but we could see the overgrown grass on the other side. The second stop was at the Dora Observatory where we could see out a window that overlooked North Korea. It was a bit foggy so it was hard to see much but it was cool how the observatory was positioned so that from one window you could see North Korea and through another you could see South Korea. The third stop was at a village where we had ice cream and looked in a souvenir shop. The tour of the DMZ was definitely one of my favorite activities we did on this trip.

After the DMZ we headed to the baseball game where the Lions played the Hero’s. We sat on the Hero’s side and rooted for them and I even got a jersey.

Compared to American baseball games, Korean baseball games had a totally different atmosphere. The whole time the crowd was cheering and singing chants. If one team did anything good the fans would go crazy. The game was tied until the last couple of innings where the Hero’s unfortunately lost. Despite the outcome, I still really enjoyed the game.
