Day 10: DMZ and Baseball Game

The day started off stopping at GS25 to pick up a sandwich for breakfast because I skipped breakfast at the hotel in order to get some extra sleep. Once we left for the DMZ, I ate my sandwich, then slept the rest of the way on the bus. Once we arrived, we had a little free time, and I got a donut from Dunkin’. Once the tour began, no pictures were allowed really. We first went to the tunnel. The North Koreans dug a series of tunnels in a plan to invade South Korea, obviously, this failed. We had to walk about 350m down a hill underground in order to reach the tunnel; once inside the tunnel, I had to duck down as I walked as the tunnel was very low. At the end of the tunnel, we could see a little window that connected into the area of North Korea.

After the tunnel, we went to the Nora Observatory; sadly, we could not see anything there either due to the extremely dense fog. If it was not foggy, we would’ve been able to see into North Korea, which would have been fascinating. After the DMZ tour, we rode the bus to the baseball game, and we had some time before the game, so some went to the gift store at the stadium and others just waited. Dr. Yun ordered chicken for each of our groups, so once we got the chicken, we entered the dome. Unlike in America, you are allowed to bring outside food into the dome, which was very weird. Once the game started, it was a major culture shock. First of all, the amount of fans there was crazy. I did not expect it at all. And each fan there was active in cheering their team on. The teams had cheerleaders that motivated the fans, and it was just a loud environment. It felt more like a soccer match than a baseball game. Sadly, the team we were rooting for lost.

We made our way back to the hotel, and my team started planning our project for about an hour, then went to bed after.
