Oil Tank Culture Park and Arisu Water Purification (Day 11)

Today was a pretty laid-back day compared to some of our other adventures. We woke up at a normal time and had breakfast at the hotel before heading out for the day. Our first destination was the Oil Tank Culture Park. We were the first group from Plus3 Seoul to visit this location! That alone made it feel pretty special. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to go inside any of the actual oil tanks since they were closed, which was a little disappointing. Still, it was cool to walk around the park and explore the area a bit. The design of the space was really interesting, blending industrial structures with green, open areas.

After a short visit there, we took public transportation to our next stop: Seoul Forest. Before diving into the cultural portion of the visit, we had some time to grab lunch. I went with sushi, and for dessert, I got a strawberry chocolate donut that I’m still thinking about hours later. So good.

Once lunch was wrapped up, we met with the rest of our group and walked to the Arisu Water Purification Center. This was one of the most informative parts of the day. We got to see the actual purification process that makes Seoul’s tap water clean and safe to drink. I had no idea how advanced and thorough the system is—they use a multi-step process that includes sedimentation, filtration (with sand, which has actually been part of the process since the original plant!), and disinfection. It was pretty amazing to learn how drinkable and reliable the tap water is here. It made me appreciate the infrastructure behind something we usually take for granted.

After the main tour, we entered a more relaxed section of the museum. There was a short history exhibit explaining the development of Seoul’s water system, and a small arts and crafts area that was surprisingly fun and calming after the educational part.

Learning about Seoul’s usage of water and the water’s greatest contaminants.

We had a little bit of free time afterwards and were then officially released for the day. My group is currently working on our final project and video presentation, so we’re keeping things pretty chill tonight. We’re planning a small group dinner and then will probably hang out at the hotel to wrap everything up. I’m also hoping to squeeze in a quick trip to Olive Young and Zara—fingers crossed I make it before they close!

Tomorrow is a big day with our presentations and video screenings. I’m really excited to see everyone’s work and enjoy some free time afterwards!
