DMZ and Baseball!

Before I came to Seoul, my brother and I were most excited about my trip to the highly militarized, historical, and famous DMZ. This place has been a huge interest of mine since I initially learned about the Korean War many years ago. What I wanted to see most was the gate. Knowing so many presidents have met there and being so close to the land was super intriguing to me. However, that would prove to be an impossible dream due to a US Soldier trespassing into Korea.

Additionally, the weather today was extremely foggy. So much so that it was impossible to even see any North Korean land. We also couldn’t take any pictures due to the recent tests. The only one I was able to get was the map on the inside of the Dora Observatory. This disappointed me to a great extent, as I couldn’t take any pictures for my family and me. What made the day better was Dr. Yun, who was nice enough to buy everybody ice cream at the DMZ department store. I got a yogurt cone and it was very delicious.

Our next stop was the baseball game! This was also one of the most anticipated moments of the trip thus far! This game was against the Samsung Lions and the Kiwoom Heroes. The game started off very slowly, with no scoring up until halftime. Then, the game absolutely exploded with action. Kiwoom and Samsung traded blows until it got to overtime, tied 2-2. Here, Samsung finally hit the finishing blow on Kiwoom and sealed the game with a triple with bases loaded. This being the first baseball game I’ve been to in a long time, it didn’t disappoint. The food was delicious, the people were exciting, and the atmosphere was something I haven’t seen before in America. The crowd was like one big person and everybody was doing the same dances/celebrations. It was very beautiful to see and I hope I can go again someday!
