Water Purification and BBQ (Day 11)

Our original plan for today was to go to the Oil Tank Culture Park but it was closed when we got there so we decided to just look around at the buildings as they were known for their architecture.. We took the subway to lunch in Seoul Forest and had shabu shabu with rice on the side. I found it cool to take the rice paper and put it into the hot water to form the wrap. After lunch we stopped at a cafe and I got a dragon fruit ade.

Our next stop was a water purification facility where we first took a tour and saw how the company takes water from different nearby rivers and purifies it so that it could be used for drinking. One of these rivers is the Han River which we sailed on during our river cruise. In one of the rooms there were 5 different tanks of water, the first was filled with brown colored water and was the dirtiest. The last tank was after the water went through purification processes and was the cleanest and looked like clear drinking water. We later got to try this drinking water that had once been in a river. We learned about the history of water purification in Seoul and saw the giant pools outside with many rows to filter water. After the tour we went to the water museum where there was a machine that told you what percent of water you were made up of. We had some free time to make keychains and explore the museum as well.

I enjoyed this company visit because it was interesting to see all the different machinery used to make Seoul’s drinking water clean and all the different tests that need to be run. It amazes me how much has to go into processes like water purification because you don’t really think about it while doing something like pouring a glass of water.

To end the day I had some delicious Korean BBQ at a restaurant near our hotel.
