Today we headed to Hoerbiger as our company visit and Oberammergau in the afternoon. The company visit was pretty long and so we had to leave around 7:30 AM and we arrived at the first branch of Hoerbiger around 8:30. At this specific location we were given a brief overview of the company as a whole before they told us specifically what they manufactured there. At that plant they made valves which were very useful due to how precise they were able to make them and were used in larger products such as ventilators to adjust breathing at specific levels. This location was really cool and it felt like it would be great place to work with a combination of relaxation abilities and very cool automation. Afterwards we headed to their second location five minutes away which was much older. Here they made gears for old diesel manual engines and was definitely my least favorite visits of the two. It felt as if it was a dying product they were manufacturing especially with the new EU regulations in the next decade and was shown as they were at 60% operating level compared to five years ago. Following the visit we were given a decent lunch of sandwiches which was definitely necessary and put me in a better mood. After we were given a couple lectures one on lean management and the other on electric vehicles and the future. These lectures were very informative, but by this point during the trip some of the information felt repetitive especially when it came to EVs and how companies need to adapt. We then took a couple of photos as a group and headed to Oberammergau.
After a short bus ride we arrived and we took a gondola up the mountain and put us right onto the Alps. This was easily my favorite part of the trip so far overtaking Neuschwanstein from a couple days prior. The views were incredible with the one side looking into the Alps that would multiply as you looked into the distance and the other overlooking Germany and Bavaria that extended for miles. We were given an hour and we took many photos and its hard to describe how beautiful it was and the photos do not do it justice either. After an hour or so we headed back down and were given free time to explore the town of Oberammergau which was great as well. The town was famous for its wood carvings and their showings of the Passion of the Christ which is shown every couple years. During the free time I relaxed and had some ice cream while most people shopped before we had to meet back up. After an hour we finally headed back to Augsburg after a long day, but definitely a good day!
