Free Day in Austria!

On our final day of the program, we had the chance to do whatever we wanted. We could go to another country or another city in Germany with the approval of our mentors, and we could do laundry or go to the zoo, or pack. My friends and I initially were dead set on Zurich. I found the train tickets and all, and I have always wanted to go to Switzerland. Unfortunately, this trip is way busier than one might think, and getting 5 people to buy train tickets for the same thing at once is not easy. So time passed and we never bought them, and then all of a sudden we’re sitting at our farewell dinner the night before our free day, wondering what we’re going to do tomorrow. A lot of people were interested in Salzberg because it’s closest, about 2 hours away, and supposedly is very pretty and city-like. I looked and pictures and wasn’t amused and still wanted to go to Zurich. Regardless, we ended up booking a ticket for Innsbruck, Austria, because two other friends were going there too. Our train left around 8am and we had some train trouble, that’s for sure. After getting kicked off one and taking the wrong other, we made our way to Innsbruck. Started out getting something to eat and then finding the two others who were already there. We shopped around, but it rained the whole time so we couldn’t see the mountains, but it was still a cute city. We sat under umbrellas in the rain at a cafe and had coffee before going halfway up the mountain in a cable car. We got there and could only really see clouds and some of the city, but we hung out up top for a while before we had to run to the train station to make it home. It was a long train ride home, and then we all had dinner together and went to the Ibis to pack! What a long last day!

Then, the next day, we flew from Munich to Charlotte, and I flew from Charlotte to Philly, where my dad picked me up and I got to go home for a few days! I can’t believe the trip went so fast, and it feels like just yesterday I was packing for it and saying goodbyes to my friends. I wish it went longer..
