Introduction – Addison Dugan

My name is Addison Dugan and I am from Hershey, PA. I am a first year nursing student at the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland. I am also working towards a certificate in global health. On campus, I am involved in the Nursing Student Association where I serve on both the Social committee, and attended the Student Nurse Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) conference. Additionally, I am a member of Rho Psi Eta, a pre-health academic sorority. I am also a sitter for STEP, a club that helps to raise future service dogs. Although I am not sure exactly which specialty I would like to work in after graduation, I am interested in travel nursing. I have always wanted to study abroad, but knew that majoring in nursing meant that may not be possible, so I was super excited to learn about the “Maymesters” that pitt offers!

Plus3 – United Kingdom

This summer, I will be traveling to the UK along with other nursing and education students to look at how their healthcare and education systems differ. I have not had many opportunities to travel, so I am very excited to be able to visit a new country and experience their culture, try new foods, and explore the areas we are in. Beyond the travel aspect, I am also excited to learn more about how healthcare differs between countries, and more about the field in general, especially in terms of caring for diverse populations. I look forward to touring the many different hospitals and schools as a way to gain first hand experience as to how these systems operate. From this experience, I hope to develop a greater awareness of systemic biases and cary that understanding into my clinicals and future practice as a nurse.
