My name is Emily Yelcick and I am from Downingtown Pennsylvania. I am a first year engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh. I plan to major in electrical engineering with a focus on hardware or embedded systems. I also plan to get my certificate in Cybersecurity in Emerging Engineering Systems.
One of my hobbies, which lead me down the path of engineering, was video games. I love any game that involves teamwork because it is a fun way to meet people and hangout with my friends. Another hobby of mine is exploring. Even in Pittsburgh, I am constantly on the bus going to new locations. So far in 2026 I have been to Hawaii, Fort Lauderdale, New York City, and soon South Korea! I am also a bodybuilder, and I compete for OCB Figure. I have competed in two competitions and have another competition set for next year.
What first peaked my interest in the Plus3 Program was the Swanson Engineering tour I got in high school. Everyone said that it was an amazing opportunity and much different than other study abroad programs. When it was reintroduced to me during the Engineering 81 presentation I knew I had to at least apply.
South Korea was my top choice and I am very excited I got picked for this location. When I normally pick vacation spots, I focus on places with beaches and resorts. This will be a totally new experience for me. South Korea is one of the most technologically advanced places, and I think this program will give me an insider look at how this came to be. I think it will also be a good way to see businesses outside of the United States work together, and hopefully I can take some of those skills back with me. Besides the technology aspect, South Korea has a lot to offer, especially when it comes to shopping and exploring. I hope to form friendships with other people in my group who will explore with me during free times.
