Hello, all! My name is Madeleine Watson and I am exciting to be participating in Plus 3 Korea this year! I am a first year student in the Swanson School of Engineering, and I plan to major in Electrical Engineering. I grew up not too far from Pittsburgh, in Harrison City, PA (about 40 minutes). I am excited to be attending Pitt for my college education.

At Pitt, I am a member of IEEE and like to participate in events all around campus. In high school, I was apart of my school’s mock trial team, show choir, and competed in Taekwondo. Outside of school, I like to spend my time listening to music, singing, or doing something crafty. (I can make a really good paper crane!) When I have some free time, I like to play videogames like Roblox or Minecraft with my friends.

I excited to be able to participate in Plus3 South Korea because I want to learn more about the smart systems Korea implements into their society. As a global leader in smart systems, Korea is one of the best places to learn about them, so I am eager to tour some companies and see what they have to offer. As smart systems become more and more prevalent in our society, I think that it is important to learn about them, to stay ahead.

In addition, am really looking forward to learning more about Korea’s culture, and the differences between the US and Korea. I believe that learning about other cultures is one of the best ways to grow as a person. I am especially excited to try a lot of different foods while in Korea, as I have heard nothing but good things about the street food in Korea! While abroad, my goal is to have as many new experiences as possible and try to make the most out of this chance.

Now, I just have to survive finals week, and I am off to South Korea! Yay!
