A Greek Odyssey!

Hi! My name is Kate Henchir, and I am a first-year Chemical Engineering student from Pittsburgh, about 30 minutes from campus. Outside of academics, I am a very creative person and have multiple art-related hobbies such as dance, painting, and music. At Pitt, I am involved in Ballet Club and Ballroom Dance Club, as well as SWE.

As a Chemical Engineering major, I am interested in working in the manufacturing industry, and am planning on minoring in Industrial Engineering. When considering which location I wanted to go to for Plus3, I was drawn to Cyprus because I felt that the program would go well with my goals as an engineer. Although we are no longer going to Cyprus, I am very excited to see what Greece has in store, especially as someone who loved Greek mythology in middle school.

During the program, I hope to learn more about engineering beyond the classroom and apply the skills that I have developed in my classes. I am interested in seeing engineering in a global context and how Greece approaches problem-solving in comparison to the United States. I would love to travel and work abroad one day, so this is a great opportunity to learn more about the cultural and economic factors that go into engineering, especially in a country so integral to the global supply chain. I also believe that this experience will help me develop important professional skills such as adaptability, communication, and open-mindedness, which will contribute to my goals of working in manufacturing and travelling in the future. I am very grateful to have this opportunity, and am so excited to experience and learn everything Greece has to offer!
