Hello! My name is Gabriel Yost, and I am a passionate Pittsburgh native. The three-wiver city has everything, including the University of Pittsburgh, where I am pursuing a degree in electrical engineering .
I’m from Bridgeville, Pennsylvania (a southern suburb of Pittsburgh), where I live with my parents and younger brother. For nearly ten years, I have practiced taekwondo, where I have competed on the national and international levels. When I was not busy kicking, I was learning parkour and spending time outdoors with friends. In college, I am blessed that I continue to frequent the parks and recreational centers, as well as find new social outlets such as the Pittsburgh Catholic Newman Club, where I serve as the Operations Officer, and the running club.
In high school, I developed two passions: the love of math/science and the study of movement through sports. This inspired me to investigate engineering as a profession because of its problem-solving nature and reliance on scientific knowledge. I started to consider human mechanics at a more scientific level. I am grateful that my research led me to Pitt and now to this Plus3 opportunity.
While I am confident that Pittsburgh is the right city to study technology and especially healthcare, I am equally confident that the systems and contexts that influence such progress vary across the globe. In what has been an amazing and fast-paced first year, I have had the opportunity to explore different fields in engineering and witness firsthand how active our city is in pioneering the newest health and technology innovations. I’m on a quest then, to learn as much as I can and gain new insights about healthcare outside my hometown (a crucial and relevant topic from my taekwondo and sports days) and the technology that makes it possible. This will grant me a new professional perspective on engineering and an academic adventure I will not forget. This is why I chose Plus3 Spain and am excited to embark on this journey!
