Adventure Awaits in the Netherlands!

Hello, My name is Maddox Cohen and I am a first year engineering student from West Chester PA! I am majoring in Bioengineering and looking to earn a certificate in Sustainability.

I chose engineering because I am passionate about finding sustainable solutions that address both human needs and environmental challenges. Bioengineering stood out to me because it provides the opportunity to integrate this principle across a wide range of fields, particularly in healthcare, agriculture, and environmental systems.

Outside of academics, I am a rower on Pitt’s crew team. I love rowing because it is both challenging and rewarding, and has allowed me to meet a great community of people. I am also a member of the Engineering Student Council, Outdoors Club, and Ski Club. I love anything that allows me to get active and get outdoors, such as distance running, skiing, biking, and hiking. In my free time I also love reading, baking, and listening to music. At home, I enjoy spending time with my younger brother and sister and working at my job at a local nursing home.

I was drawn to Pitt’s Plus3 program because I knew I wanted to pursue studying abroad and it felt like a great introduction to global experiences. I love traveling because I’m always looking to have adventures that broaden my horizons, whether it’s meeting new people or exploring unfamiliar places. I was also excited by the opportunity to connect with other engineers and gain perspective on my engineering educational path that extended beyond my first year coursework. I chose The Netherlands: Renewable Energy and Sustainability because of my love of nature and interest in sustainable solutions in an interdisciplinary nature. I am excited to see engineering principles applied to urban design, industry, and agriculture. Visiting companies and meeting industry professionals will be a great opportunity to gain insight on my future goals in both engineering and global engagement. I am also excited to experience Dutch culture and explore the cities of The Netherlands while getting to know my peers!
