Day 1: Jeans and Scenes

on

After a full night’s rest, we were able to have a much more productive day. Starting the day off with a scavenger hunt around Amsterdam was a fun way to have us run around the city, using clues to learn more about their culture and get to absorb more of the amazing views the city had to offer. Learning more about the 12 million pillars under the city holding it above water was very interesting. Asking a local to help us translate rather than using Google, and the local elderly lady opening ChatGPT on her phone was definitely a highlight. Being a part of the winning crew definitely made the sprinting worth it.

After sitting by the water as we enjoyed dinner, transitioning into the House of Denim and learning about how they are using sustainable methods to lower the impact of the denim industry was an engineering highlight of the day. One of the most notable facts I learned was that the transition from pumice stone to lab-produced stones made of recycled sea plastics lowered the water usage from 600 liters per year down to just 60. These stones are essential to the wash and design each pair, ensuring they were just to a customers liking. All in all, the day ended off highly, and I’m excited for the next. See you tomorrow!
