Having fun in Ellinikon!

One experience that I will never forget from my first day in Greece was touring Ellinikon. The Ellinikon is a huge Greek revitalization construction project that spans six million square feet of Greek coastland. It consists of various segments, each with their own unique benefits that combine to create a beautiful landscape. Near the shore are expensive villas, luxury hotels and a large high-end mall. In the center there is planned to be a large open area for a park featuring native Greek flora. Behind the park their will be the University of Nicosia’s Athen branch, a sports complex, and more residential buildings. The whole project is being completed over the site of the old airport which has been closed since 2001. The Ellinikon Experience Center that we toured showcased the overall plan for the area and provided unique experiences to demonstrate what the completed area will eventually look like. I particularly liked the virtual coastline tour where we got to sit on a fake boat. It was crazy to see the scale of the project and how multiple companies are working together to create a space that will revamp the landscape into a vibrant and sustainable community.
