Day 2 in Bilbao

Today was our first full day in Bilbao, and what a time it was! We started off our day in the Bilbao School of Engineering. There, we learned about the team’s research project: Oreka-Balance. It was incredibly interesting to learn about the team’s research process beginning from early communications with hospital affiliates, to present clinical trials with stroke patients. It is clear that the engineers have a true passion for designing feasible medical solutions based on their efforts on communicating and listening to the nurses and staff directly from the hospital. They ensure that above all, patients are receiving quality care, and that healthcare professionals can easily support and administer the care to the patients.  Aside from the initial presentations, we also had a delicious 3 course lunch in the university’s cafeteria, and it was much better than any mealswap i’ve had back home.

After our morning in the engineering school, we met up with our tour guide who took us to every nook and cranny of the city. We saw the beautiful architecture and greenery all throughout town, as well as the brightly painted buildings scattering the edge of the main river. After having some more pintxos along our journey through the new and old town, we left with a camera roll full of pictures.

Later in the evening we ventured back out into Casco Viejo for dinner. Unfortunately our timing was not ideal, and everything seemed to be closing… we only got to order half of our pintxos. It’s alright though because we found a delicious gelato location as well as a conveniently located cheesecake shop! We enjoyed our treats in town before walking back under the starry sky to rest after an eventful day full of fun.
