Today we visited LAMDA and got the opportunity to both hear about and see firsthand their work on the Elinikon development. They explained to us the BIM (building, information, modelling) process of engineering, where contractors and clients can work together using one source of truth for an entire project. This means that less miscommunication occurs on projects, reducing errors and leading to better standards, also reducing costs. One thing that I really enjoyed hearing about was the perspective of the LAMDA engineer who incorporated the BIM process with Geographic Information System (GIS) data. His perspective after working with the BIM process and combining it with GIS is that everything can be boiled down to points of data, and you can combine those points of data with the GIS platforms to give context to the data. This combination not only allows the engineers to make better and easier decisions, but also for the contractors and workers to have a strong physical understanding of the project. I feel like this mindset and process can definitely be extrapolated out to other disciplines, not just engineering.

Besides visiting LAMDA, we had a walking tour of Athens today which brought us on some beautiful paths and gave us equally beautiful views. It also gave me a better sense of the city which is nice to have. Finally, to end the day we visited the National Archeological Museum where we learned about the rise of Ancient Greek culture, how it transitioned into Roman culture, and eventually fell due to the change of the religion toward more of a focus on the leaders themselves, rather than the nature and land around the people.
