A Dive into Dutch History: Day 3

on

On day 3 in Amsterdam we learned a lot more about Dutch history and their early experience with engineering. In the morning we visited the historic area of Zaanse Schans where we saw original windmills and a look into early Dutch farming. In the afternoon we went back into the city to visit the Anne Frank House, a very important cultural visit for Dutch history.

The Dutch have a lot of respect and pride in their history so seeing these places were very eye opening and important. It is important to understand this history, especially in the era of World War Two and the Holocaust.

One of the coolest things to see yet was the early Dutch windmills. It is crazy that this form of renewable energy has been used for hundreds of years for tons of different purposes. The landscape of the Netherlands has completely changed because of innovations like these windmills. The scale of the dijks and polders created by the Dutch is incredible to see and a testament to human ingenuity.
