Bulbs and Boat Houses: Day 2

on

Day 2 in Amsterdam was packed with site visits and some cool exploration. The day started with a trip to a tulip farm and we learned about the famous tulip industry. On the way back we stopped at a Dutch beach and waded in the North Sea a bit. We then had two very cool site visits at a floating house community and the EDGE building. Both are amazing highlights of sustainability in the Netherlands.

During all the site visits the Dutch people were incredibly welcoming and one of the biggest cultural takeaways I got was that the Dutch value community a lot. Especially at the tulip farm people rely on their neighbors for help and support.

My biggest takeaway today related to sustainability is that reuse is very important. Both at Schoonschip and at the EDGE building spaces are used for multiple purposes so resources are saved. Also at schoonschip there is a lot of sharing and a strong community supporting the drive for sustainability.
