As someone who loved Greek mythology as a child, visiting Athens and learning about the history was an absolute dream of mine. Over the past few days, I feel very lucky to have learned about the rich culture of one of the world’s oldest standing cities. Athens’ culture is centered around its history, something foreign to me as someone from a country as young as the US. Seeing the relationship between the Greeks and their extensive history is very interesting to me, as well as seeing how they incorporate this history into their future endeavors, such as the Ellinikon. The Greeks remember and honor all that has happened in their past, and their pride in it is something to admire. Seeing the Acropolis and museum was interesting in this way, considering how archaeologists and engineers have worked together to preserve as much of the Acropolis as possible and display it to the public. In the future, I will remember the care that the Greeks put into preserving their culture and building an identity from their past while integrating it with advancing technologies and engineering to continue evolving their deep history into the future.
