Today was the fourth day in Bilbao! We started the day off back in the university with two very interesting lectures. The first presentation was by Professor Iñigo Ruiz from the Nursing School. He told us about the nursing education system in Spain and how it compares to the United States. One very intriguing difference was how clinical are structured. In Spain, students start clinical their first year and focus on just clinical everyday for a month. This is very different from the United States because we started clinical our second year and do it one day a week throughout the whole year. Iñigo also shared with us his research on reusing devices, specifically pacemakers. I thought that his research was very interesting and well done! I loved hearing about the process and the successful reuses.
We also heard from Mikel, a mechanical engineer. He shared with us the process of developing a medical device using interdisciplinary teams. He further applied this to prosthetic limbs.
After lunch, we went to a cooking class and split into groups. My group made tortilla, pintxos, and dessert. It was also my first time trying anchovies and I thought they were surprisingly good! I had the task of cutting the onions. Even though I ended up crying from them, the whole experience was so much fun. After we finished and ate our delicious deserts, we swapped with the other group. It was our turn to go on a walking tour, then shopping. It was a great end to the day, can’t wait for more!
