Argentina Pre-Departure Post

Hi! My name is Nathan Tantum, and I am a student at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Finance and Accounting. Academically, I am interested in how financial systems and accounting principles affect businesses and how they operate. At Pitt, I am a part of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, where I will be serving as recruitment chair next fall. Additionally, I am also part of the University of Pittsburgh Accounting Association. In my personal life, I am from North Wales Pennsylvania which is about 35 minutes outside of Philadelphia. In my free time, I like to ski and snowboard at local mountains, travel with family and friends, and lift weights. Professionally, I hope to begin my career within the accounting or finance sector and use my experiences in order to explore future opportunities.

In terms of Plus3, I chose Argentina because Healthcare Management is something that I am not too familiar with. The topic will allow me to step out of my comfort zone and learn new things that I would not have learned anywhere else in Pitt Business. Healthcare is also deeply intertwined with business principles, especially accounting and finance. Financial decisions occur every day within healthcare that can shape the way that people are able to receive treatment. Another reason I chose Argentina is my interest in learning more about life in Latin America. In high school, I took 5 years of Spanish class. I am excited to visit one of the many Latin American societies we learned about and potentially step out of my comfort zone and use my Spanish ability. I hope this experience will develop my communication, problem solving, and understanding of how business concepts are present in many different industries.
