Chefing it up!

Today we started off with breakfast at the hotel of course, and then we were off to the University. At the university we headed to what I now consider as the designated plus3 room. Here, we got to learn all about the differences between nursing in Spain vs nursing in Europe vs Nursing in the US. It was really interesting to hear about how the geographical nature of certain countries in Europe effects the healthcare system they use (central Europe uses the Bismarck Model which is characterized by mandatory, income-based contributions from both employers and employees while the rest of Europe adopted the Beveridge model where the government provides universal health care through taxes). If I’m being honest, since I am not a nurse, a lot of this presentation went over my head.

However, the next presentation I found very interesting. This presentation focused on the topic of prosthetics. The presenter showed us a very interesting Ted-Talk that described an individual who lost his legs, and designed his own prosthetics. This individual then went on to design a prosthetic for a dancer who unfortunately lost one of her legs in the Boston marathon bombing. Her first dance performance happened on stage at the Ted-Talk. It was such a beautiful story. The rest of the presentation was just as good. I definitely asked more questions during this presentation than any other.

After the presentations and a lunch at the school, we headed out to center city Bilbao where we split off into two groups. The group I was in went to explore the city and do a little bit of shopping. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up buying anything (everything was so expensive!). After our little exploration, we headed to a cooking class. This cooking class was so much fun! I’ve missed cooking after all the eatery food this semester. My day then ended with watching the champion’s league semi-final match between Bayern Munich and PSG. It was very sad to see Bayern lose but it was a great game anyways.
