Day 4: Workshop and Cooking!

This morning, we met Saioa and walked to the University, where we got to learn so much. We heard from a few different speakers about Nursing in Spain and Europe v.s. the U.S, the design process, and the research process. The first speaker, a previous nurse and now a professor at the university, went into detail about how their nursing education is highly regulated. The second speaker, a second professor who was a part of Saioa’s research team, delved deep into the design world, focusing mainly on Human Centered Design. The message he conveyed was to ask yourself who you are designing the product for, and that will lead you to identifying the problems you need to address and the criteria that need to be filled. This speaker, in particular, was very interesting to me because what inspired me to become an engineer was learning about human-centered design.

After, we had a delicious lunch, where I ate beef with blue cheese sauce and cake for dessert. Then we learned a bit about the workshop we will be doing on Monday, getting the groups and the assignments each group will have to work on.

Then we took the subway to a small kitchen, where we met a kind chef from southern Spain. This was easily the best part of the day. We started by prepping the ingredients, where I peeled a hard-boiled egg and sliced onions. Then we started preparing the cream for the dessert and cooking the potatoes that had just been prepared. Then we added onions to the potatoes when they were halfway done and then sat down and made our pynxos. I tried anchovies for the first time and had a shrimp and egg pynxo that was delicious. Then we made the rest of our dessert and put it in the freezer. Then, I was lucky enough to be selected to fry the tortilla. Jonathan and I both did a fantastic job, and it turned out delicious. I hope that I can try to make it again sometime!
