We started off the day with breakfast as per usual and then headed over to the Bilbao School of Engineering for some presentations! First we listened to Dr. Inigo Ruiz present information on nursing in Spain and also research at the school. His presentation was very interesting as I learned how different the system for schooling is in Spain compared to the US. Following this presentation was Mikel Diaz speaking on how to design a medical device. I am not an engineer so I found the process and everything that has to be taken into account very fascinating. On top of that, it really highlighted how much overlap there is between nursing and engineering. Once these wonderful presentations were done we headed to lunch. For today’s lunch I got very delicious salad, chicken, and chocolate cake!
After this we headed to a cooking class where we got to make two pintxos, some tortilla, and a cream dessert! We started by prepping for the tortilla; cutting onion and potato and peeling eggs. For this step I was in charge of helping cut onions into little squares! Then we made the pinxtos! The first one was made of olives, anchovies, and peppers and drizzled with olive oil. The second one was a shrimp and half an egg and then drizzled with spicy mayo. Both were delicious! After that we began to cook the tortilla. We fried the potato and onion and then added egg. This was then cooked in a pan and Connor and Jonathan had a competition to see who was a better cook (I won’t say who I think won). Finally, the cream dessert was made of three layers, whipped cream, then crumbled cake, then a custard topping. The food was amazing and the kitchen didn’t burn down so it was a win! We then finished the day with a quick tour from Saioa and some shopping! Can’t wait for tomorrow!
