Learning & Lycabettus

In the morning, I learned the difference between poison and venom. Simply put, if you consume something that kills you, the culprit is poison, but if you are bitten by something that kills you, then the culprit is venom. I also learned about peptides this morning and how technology has streamlined the process of creating new medicine applications. AlphaFold is the technology that allows chemists to compare protein structures digitally to see their compatibility with the human body. This saves time in the lab because chemists already have a strong idea of what to expect before confirming with experimentation. In the afternoon, we toured the Benaki Museum and summited Mount Lycabettus, the highest point in Athens. In the museum, we saw important paintings, jewelry, sculptures, weaponry, and religious displays. This experience was captivating as we saw multiple floors of significant artifacts. To end our day, we took the funicular up Mount Lycabettus, which provided panoramic views of Athens and the surrounding cities. We had a nice walk down the mountain, seeing the large cacti and agave plants.
