Today in Greece we had a fun filled day full of a variety of different activities. We started our day by taking the metro to the Athens branch of the University of Nicosia. While there we got to experience a fascinating lecture from Professor Sarigiannis about peptides found in venom. He discussed how separating and observing these small amino acids could lead to their use in pharmaceutical products. He hopes that one day we could go to a pharmacy and have a machine print out a specific peptide designed specifically for us. After the lecture we travelled to Kolonaki for free time and lunch. While there I enjoyed a traditional Gyro with my friends. Next we headed to the Benaki museum to learn more about Greek History. Unlike our prior museum visit this one focused on “newer” events in terms of Greek history. I particularly liked the final section where it showed how they earned their independence and the ornate weapons they had. The final stop of our scheduled day was to go to the highest point in Athens at Mount Lycabettus where we got to enjoy a nice view to cap off our day.
