Before researching Costa Rica more, I mostly just thought of it as a beautiful vacation destination with beaches and rainforests, but now I see it as a country that is really committed to sustainability. After doing a quick search, the two initiatives that stood out most to me were their renewable energy and forest conservation efforts. It was honestly really impressive to see that almost all of their electricity comes from renewable sources like hydro, wind, and geothermal energy. I also read about how much of the country’s land is protected through national parks and reforestation projects. Coffee and agriculture definitely came up too, especially sustainable coffee farming and the importance of bananas and pineapples to their economy. Overall, the focus on sustainability comes across as more progressive and impressive than anything else because it seems like something Costa Rica has actually committed to instead of just talking about.
I’m really excited to go to Costa Rica because I think it’s going to be such a different experience from anything I’ve done before. I’m excited to explore the rainforests, beaches, waterfalls, and see wildlife in person, but I’m also excited to experience the culture and try authentic Costa Rican coffee and fresh pineapple. I also think it will be really fun getting to spend time with everyone on the trip and making memories together. Overall, I think this is going to be an experience I’ll never forget.
