Today we started the day with another trip to UNIC Athens, where we had a lecture about the use of peptides in venom medicine. I haven’t done much research into the use of ultrashort peptides in modern medicine, so the implications they have for the future of medicine and materials intrigued me. After our lecture, we went to the Benaki Museum for a guided tour.
Most of what we were shown was 16th–18th century Greek history, focusing on Greece’s War of Independence and the founding of the Greek state. I appreciated what the museum presented because, until now, I feel like I was only knowledgeable about ancient and modern Greece. It was very interesting to me how the culture persisted and changed during these times. Seeing the impact other cultures had on the region was also fascinating. I’m very excited to learn more during our future tours.
