Making My Own Authentic Greek Cuisine: My favorite Activity So Far

on

Today I will be sharing my personal favorite experience thus far on my Plus3 Greece trip. The activity that I enjoyed the most was our time at Eat with your Greek cousin which is a cooking class experience in Athens. While there we had the opportunity to create a handful of local dishes with fresh ingredients. We started out with creating our seasoned chicken meat for our Gyros with various local spices and ingredients. While the meat was cooked, we worked on our dessert which was the traditional Greek Cheesecake. This consisted of condensed milk, Greek yogurt, strawberry jam, and crumbled graham cracker-like crackers. The completed product was taken to be frozen, after a bite or two to taste it of course. At this point I was pretty hungry, but luckily the next task was to make an appetizer to eat. This was Dakos salad which consists of barely rusks topped with tomato paste, olive oil, and feta cheese. After making the salad we made our final two items which were tzatziki sauce and making our homemade pita bread. The tzatziki consisted of more Greek Yogurt, dill, cucumber and garlic. The pita was made from provided dough which we made into a dough circle to cook. Once we had our final ingredients done, we were able to make and enjoy our Gyros. This activity made me appreciate the work it takes to make a gyro and opened my eyes to the many other uses of Greek yogurt that I will have to try in cooking besides just being used as a regular yogurt in my morning meals.
