My Favorite Athens Experiences

on

From our first week in Athens, I don’t think that I could pick just one favorite experience. We have seen so many things, all very different in nature. Two of my favorite experiences this week, however, have been our visit to the Temple of Poseidon today and the Greek cooking class on Wednesday.

As someone who doesn’t really cook, I was a bit anxious about the cooking class at “Eat With Your Greek Cousin,” and wasn’t sure I would enjoy it, but I really did! Everyone working there was extremely kind and helpful, and making food to then be able to eat with my friends was really fun, and the food was delicious. We made gyros, tzatziki sauce, dakos, pita, and a Greek cheesecake. I’m really excited to cook Greek cuisine for my family at home!

Today we took the bus to Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon, which I thought was a very relaxing drive. Our tour guide Dimitris explained many of the things we saw on the way to Sounio, and it was very nice to sit back, listen, and take in the views. We then took a tour of the Temple of Poseidon, which was really interesting since the temple has never been restored and clearly looks weathered from the salty air. The views were beautiful, and it was a great way to start our day.
