Corinth Canal Connections

on

Today we had our longest journey yet across Greece to visit some unique Greek locations. Our first stop on our trip was the Corinth Canal, which is a man-made canal that connects the Ionian Sea with the Aegean Sea. While there we got to witness the great effort made to connect the seas by digging a huge channel through rock. The passage through the isthmus was desired since the days of ancient Greece. I thought it was impressive that engineers were able to eventually create this passage which was desired for centuries. It taught me that even things that we may think of as impossible now, might one day be feasible. It reminded me of the lecture given at UNIC where the speaker talked about how they were going back through old data to find new uses for venom. It gives me hope that even if I get stuck in my future work, that I will one day be useful to someone with more technology and information. I also hope to make use of the technology that I have to help finish the work of those before me.
