Day 1 – Welcome to Argentina

After some very long flights, we finally landed in Buenos Aires and were greeted by Laura and Ileana from IES Abroad. After getting through border security and customs pretty quickly, we took a bus into the city and to our hotel. We got to see some of the outer parts of Buenos Aires as well as some of the parts of the city that are more historical and close to the capital center. While on the way there, we also got to see the widest street in the world, Avenida 9 de Julio.

After we dropped off our stuff at the hotel, we went over to the IES office and got some homemade lunch with some churrasco and had some bomba de chocolate for dessert. We finally got a chance to rest afterwards and just chill in our hotel room before exploring more of the city.

On our walk around Retiro and San Telmo, we saw La Casa Rosada and the capital city center. We also some other historical monuments on our walk like the obelisk that looks like the Washington Monument. Eventually, about ten of us went to a popular pizza place called Guerrin and it was some of the best pizza we’ve ever had before heading back to the hotel for a calm night in.

Since it’s Mother’s Day here and back home, I wanted to make sure to mention my mom really quick. Without her influence, I wouldn’t be on this trip, having all of these new experiences that I never could’ve had in the U.S. I’m so grateful for everything she’s given me and I can’t wait to see her after these two weeks.
