Our First Farewell

on

Today we took a long bus ride, our first stop in Nafplio, a beautiful seaside city that was one of my favorite on the trip so far. After about an hour long walking tour we were set loose to get food and go shopping for the family. After that we made our over to Epidavros to visit the famous ancient theatre. It was a very cool thing to see and it really gave me an appreciation for the ancient Greek engineering. They had figured out the angle to make it so that someone at the top level of the theatre could hear even a penny drop from the pocket of an actor, we tested it! It was actually during this part of the trip that i received one of the most valuable lessons. Our guide Dimitri, who has been with us for the whole trip thus far, took a moment to speak to us as students. With today being that last day we have him as a guide he left us with a piece of advice. He told us that as engineers we are already technically minded, but along with that we must also develop an appreciation for the architecture, history, and culture around us, so that we can become well-rounded professionals who don’t just know how to building things, but why and where. That perspective is something i will definitely be taking home with me.
