San Sebastián Sights

We’ve almost been in Bilbao for a week at this point, time is really flying by! Our Saturday began with a bus ride to San Sebastián. Before entering the main part of town, we drove up to the top of a hill that had the most scenic views of the town. We took over a million pictures before returning to the bus to drive into town. The town lies close to the French border, and there is a noticeable difference between the Spanish architecture in Bilbao and the French-influenced style in the buildings in San Sebastián. The new-town streets are lined with beautiful buildings and shops. We received an in-depth tour of the town, which finished up on a street with pintxo restaurants scattered all along it. We grabbed pintxos for lunch, and I had two bocadillos de jamon. They were so delicious! We strolled around town visiting tiny shops. As we walked along the boardwalk, we saw some people making mandalas and pictures in the sand, as well as displaying current event news stats in the sand. The artists were quite skilled and their drawings were very detailed. After exploring more of the town, we met back up to take the bus to our next destination, Zumaia.

Zumaia was absolutely stunning. It was a quiet little coastal town that was quite peaceful. We walked through the town to reach the beach. The sandy beach was enclosed by sheets of rocks caused by a meteor and the sea. It makes for a really unique beach environment. There was also a cave formed from these sheets that we could actually walk into! We had to be careful though to make sure we didn’t get splashed by the freezing water as the tide rose.

Once we were back in Bilbao, we finished up our day with some delicious mango and passion fruit gelato. It was the perfect treat to wrap up our day!
