Today we took our site visit to Dien Quang. Being able to hear and see from employees of the company about what they do and see how they do it gave a different perspective about what it takes to manufacture tangible goods.
One thing from the site visit which was my favorite to see was how they were testing how their products would holdup in extreme situations. I thought it was super cool to see how they test what rough transportation might look like on their goods as well as different weather patterns and how they can be held up in rain. Seeing these happening in real time makes me regret not asking a question about how they see their results vary through different products and what do they do to see a change in those results over time.
As well as during this visit I thought a lot about how they mentioned beginning to develop themselves further with their staffing. I’m curious to know just how many more people were needed to work in the labs before they began to downsize as they grew with making their products through electronics. With this one thing that stuck out from the labs for me is that in every lab there was not one thing out of place. This doesn’t surprise me too much as I would assume for there to be very strict order in many labs to ensure efficacy as much as possible but it was an experience to be able to see all of the tape lining off sections of the room with equipment only being able to be in some areas at once.
Touching on multidisciplinary teams these large labs at Dien Quang are made up of so many different people. Scientists, engineers, business operators, etc, they all have the same goal during their work together, to make there products as high quality as possible for their customers. From class today at UEF we spoke about how different manufactures have different priorities, whether its cheap material, high quality, and fast production. We learned that Dien Quang’s priority is product quality, partnership, product development, and how products can benefit the environment. This makes me wonder how they go about balancing other priorities while putting their main focus on those, and how exactly did they come to the conclusion of focusing on them and not others like quick production.
