Day 9: My Skills Finally Got Put to Use

I apologize for being a little late on this post. I’ve been quite exhausted. Anyway, let’s talk about today. It was quite exciting.

POSTECH Part 2

Our first stop today was POSTECH (again). Today we went on more of a tour of campus with a student tour guide. Our guide was super nice, and he is the president of the anime club at POSTECH, which is apparently an elite club there since most club officers are also in the anime club. We got to see the library and the startup building, which is also where we ended up having lunch. My food honestly looked better than it tasted. But the miso soup and rice were very good. The chicken not so much.

Also at POSTECH, we had to pay for our own meals since they were not covered by Pitt. My group (not my normal group C, we got all mixed around), decided we’d all order at once, one person pay with card, and the rest pay them back. Unfortunately I have few methods of transferring money, so it was a bit of a hassle. Thankfully we finally figured it out. Manav paid for me, then I bought him a souvenir.

POSCO

After we had lunch at POSTECH, we went to POSCO, a steel manufacturing plant. Fun fact that I may have already mentioned but I can’t remember: POSCO was the founder of POSTECH. We went to two POSCO museums, the POSCO Museum and the POSCO History Museum. Both museums were super cool, but I preferred the POSCO Museum because of the super cool display at the beginning. Here’s a couple videos of it.

POSCO also gave us some steel nail clipper sets which I thought was nice. We also got to see the steel plant, which was super cool. We couldn’t take any pictures there though.

Crabs!

After POSCO, we headed back to the hotel. Since my group still had one more unredeemed reward from Dr. Yun (because we’re awesome and had earned two rewards), he treated all of us to dinner. Well, he treated 4 of us to dinner because V and Jacqueline didn’t want to come along. We wanted to get crabs, and V changed her mind after we all agreed. Jacqueline just wasn’t feeling great, so she wanted to stay back and rest. So, it was just me, Ben, Manav, Jake, Chris, and Dr. Yun. Manav and Jake already knew how to eat crab (for the most part). Everyone else didn’t. Thankfully, I’ve been eating crab ever since I can remember because at the yearly Brister reunions, we always get crab. So, as the title says, my skills finally came in handy because I was able to teach everyone how to pick crabs.

Dr. Yun tried eating the crab, but very quickly decided it wasn’t for him. Not sure if that was because of the taste or if he just didn’t like having to put in the work to get the meat. So, he ordered some ramen for himself. The funny part was that the ramen had a crab in it. As in, the actual whole crab just broken into pieces, not just picked crab meat. Of course Dr. Yun took all the crab out and set it on the tray. I think Ben ate most of the ramen crab.

Speaking of Ben, he is from Maryland. I found it very surprising that this was his first time eating crab since he’s from the state known for crabs. Unlike Dr. Yun however, Ben LOVED the crabs. We’d still be at that restaurant if it were up to him.

The crabs were very delicious and very juicy. I rate that restaurant 11/10. If I ever come back to Pohang, I’m going back to that restaurant. I don’t remember the exact name or address so they better not change the look of the building.

After crabs, we went back to the hotel. Chris wanted to walk around a little bit, so the rest of us found a bus and hopped on. Once we were on the bus we saw Chris standing at a bus stop. Then we got back to the hotel, and we stopped at the convenience store right next door first, but Chris was walking out as we were about to walk in. We still don’t understand how he beat us there. I bought a little ice cream thing for dessert and it was so good. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it because I just really wanted to eat my ice cream. It was vanilla with some strawberry syrup.
